Palm oil is often used in making soap but Petmama Garden chose to avoid it ...

Palm oil is now the most widely-used oil in the world. Food, household cleaners, personal care and cosmetics all contain it.

But the way it’s grown is unsustainable. In order to clear land to grow palm, swathes of rainforest are burned, destroying habitat and homes and the fragile rainforest ecosystem.  Trees that remove carbon from the air are destroyed, removing their storage properties forever. And when the forest is burned, high levels of carbon dioxide and soot are released, a huge contributor to climate change (coolearth.org)

Endangered Wild Animals

Indonesia and Malaysia produce more than 85% of the world’s palm oil and are the only remaining home to orangutans. Fewer than 80,000 of these animals survive today, their habitats under constant threat of deforestation.

Sumatran Elephant (Critically Endangered)

While Sumatra is home to several of the country’s largest national parks, many areas in these parks are destroyed—illegally—to produce palm oil. The elephant population across the island is crashing, with far fewer than 3,000 surviving, as herds are left homeless, harassed and killed due to intense conflict with people over shrinking habitat (worldwildlife.org)

Besides Sumartran Elephants, Bornean Pygmy Elephant, Sumatran Rhino, Sumatran Tiger are also endangered due to to unstaintable or illegal method to produce palm oil.
